George Lane, St Kilda
Yesiree! Starting the year with a BANG.
Get ready to don your dancing shoes (or comfy Mary Janes) as The Garland Minnelli Effect makes its highly anticipated debut at St Kilda’s legendary live venue George Lane on Saturday, 31 January 2026.
🎙 Meet the band
At the heart of this musical soirée is vocalist Anthea Palmer, whose lifelong love-affair with the music of Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli is the very inspiration behind the show. Anthea’s credits include rock band Drama Queen, jazz/blues duo Blackburn or Bust, and she currently fronts Atomic: The Songs of Blondie.
She is joined by the ever-swinging guitarist Mark Morand, a Melbourne-based band leader and arranger, hailed by Jazz Guitar Today as “one of Melbourne’s finest jazz guitarists”.
Rounding out the quintet are the rhythm heroes: Annette Yates on double bass, veteran drummer Niko Schauble, and adding his brass-magic is trombonist Callum Mintzis.
Together, they revive the songs made famous by Garland and Minnelli — but with a twist: expect fresh arrangements and a swinging, joyous take on the classics.
This event promises nostalgia, musical finesse—and more than a little fun.
